Oronaut is 1 year and 100 posts old!

Bridger mountain flowers

I would just like to take a moment reflect that Oronaut is over a year old now! And this is my 101st post. Keeping up the Oronaut blog has been an interesting and valuable learning experience for me as a content publisher, web designer, and outdoor enthusiast. :)

In this past year I’ve been up North to Alaska (twice), and way down South to Mexico as well. The big trips I took would have been fun just as they were, but I really like the way blogging about them makes me digest, process, and (I think) enjoy my travels more thoroughly and thoughtfully than I would otherwise. I also love the challenge of picking my favorite pictures from the trips and deciding how to present them with the text. As an amateur photographer with a lowly point-and-shoot (and no plans to gain any recognition as an artist), this blog has been the perfect outlet for my modest photographic creativity. Posting pictures off all the beautiful and wonderful things I see outdoors is probably my favorite part!

In addition to my “travels” there has been plenty of Bozeman Montana (and Driggs Idaho) rambling in the between - too much to blog about each little adventure! In these cases I’m enjoying using Oronaut as a bit of a resource about my “neck of the woods”. I can’t imagine anyone really wants to hear about my day biking up Leveritch, but if I include additional information like a description of the trail, directions, etc, I feel like I’m making a more valuable contribution to the Web. My posts about our local hot springs, for example, have been quite popular, and over time I hope to flesh them out with more detailed descriptions - maybe even set up a small “guidebook” section of Oronaut? Expanded to cover backcountry skiing, mountain biking and more in the area?

Anyway it’s been a fun year and I’m excited to continue to refine and prefect my writing style, content choices, and photography. I think if I’ve made it a year I can keep it up for the foreseeable future. After years of searching on Google for local trail information and “trip reports” it feels good to give back to the Internet a little with some of my own.

Cheers, and see you around the Interwebs! (and hopefully the mountains, too! :)
