Huffing for Stuffing race - Bozeman 2008

Today I ran in the Huffing for Stuffing Thanksgiving fun run! It’s a charity race to raise money for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. Sadly, I’ve seen my share of stoners take advantage of the Food Bank and now have a hard time looking past them to the families in need of food. I feel like I’m just buying munchies for a lazy asshole who spends the money he saved on video games instead. But I’m trying to get past that. Especially at this time of year. Plus, it’s a fun community event (with well over a thousand participants this year!), and I’ve been getting back into running! I ran cross country in High School and did some fun-runs back then, but I quit when I went to college. I’m just now getting back into running, and this is the first race I’ve done in about 5 years! I ran the 10k with a time of 47:30 - even at the ungodly hour of 9AM in 17°F weather! :)

Cynical “ba-humbug” anecdote of the day: Each year, Moonlight Basin runs their admirable Turkey for a Ticket food drive, where you get a lift ticket for bringing in a turkey or 15+ cans of food (Dec 19th this year!). Last year a pot-head I know got a turkey for Thanksgiving from the Food Bank. He then donated the turkey back to the Food Bank at Moonlight Basin for a ski ticket. Basically, whoever gave that turkey to the Food Bank actually gave him a day of skiing at Moonlight. *sigh* (Man, I’m starting to sound like a bitter, conservative old man!)

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving!
