Mount Rainier

Balkan Beat Box!Considering I only spent about four days in the Seattle area, I’m confused by feeling simultaneously like I did a lot of cool things, and relaxed a lot. Quoi? I arrived in Seattle on Saturday night just in time to meet my buddy Andy before the Balkan Beat Box Balkan Beat Boxshow at Neumos. Well, actually we were early and grabbed some amazing (and cheap!) sushi, then the show. It was… incredible. High energy, great showmanship, a crazy and eclectic Seattle crowd, huge jugs of Red Stripe…. amazing. The sax players are like nothing I’ve ever seen. At one point, they played a song in… 7 time? Four beats then three? God knows. Just amazing.

Chris about to splashThe next day I headed out to Issaquah to visit another friend from college. His folks like right on Lake Sammamish and they have a boat, so had the rare pleasure of some motorsports. Fortunately we spent most of the Perfect weather for boating... in Seattle??time chilling in the boat sipping beers, but I spent about 15mins out on the tubes getting slung across the water at 20mph. I am still sore from those 15mins, three days later. I’m not sure there is anything more brutal that tubing behind a power boat. Except, maybe, actually getting beat up. Like by bookies. So fun though. I wish more of my friends had boats. :)

Washington folfThe next day we played from folf, watched Dr Strangelove, went for a short hike up to the paraglider launch area and generally had a relaxing time. Finally we headed up to their cabin on Snoqualmie Summit. I’d heard a lot about the cabin over the years and it was great to finally check it out. It is *right* by the lifts. I can’t wait to check it out in the winter - it’s natural element. There’s a USSMA race at Alpental this year, so perhaps that’s when I’ll visit. We took a short mountain bike ride up to the Summit, and checked out Alpental a little, then bounced back towards Seattle.

Epic Washington are UWI spent the last night in Seattle with Andy again and checked out the University district, the UW campus and tried a “bubble tea“. I’m not sure I’m sold on the bubble tea. It was sugary and delicious, but the tapioca balls… I don’t know. They were novel and fun, Bubble tea. Hmmm.but I got tired of chewing my tea after a while. Mostly I was excited to finish the USSMA website, make reservations to hike Mount Whitney, and work on my plans to hike Mount Adams in a couple of days! I think Adams will be my September ski day. I post up about it when I hit Portland!
